On February 13, Write to Right's Montgomery Blair High School chapter (led by Lily Scheckner) hosted an event that combined creative expression with community outreach and connection. Students gathered in Room 162, the Cap Suite, to craft letters that intertwined themes of joy and warmth with reflections on pressing social issues. These letters were then distributed to community members in need of encouragement and connection.
The event aimed to harness the power of creative writing as a tool for social change, aligning with Write to Right's mission to empower under-resourced communities through self-expression. By focusing on the intersection of personal joy and societal challenges, students were encouraged to explore complex topics in a manner that was both empathetic and uplifting.
Utilizing Write to Right's curriculum, participants engaged in workshops designed to enhance their writing skills and deepen their understanding of social advocacy. These sessions provided students with the tools to bring their letters to life, ensuring that each piece resonated with authenticity and purpose.
The letters were subsequently circulated to various community members, including residents of local shelters and senior centers, spreading messages of hope and solidarity. This initiative not only brightened the days of the recipients but also fostered a sense of connection between the students and the broader community.
